Top 3 BBCreams - for Oily Skin ✿REVIEW✿

November 1, 2015

✿ ✿ ✿
Hello kitties! ♡
Today I'm going to be reviewing my top 3 BBCreams from the Western Market.
You may be wondering what are BB creams? Where did they come from? Aren't they the same thing as foundation? Well, not exactly. I'll explain everything real quick now; BB Cream stands for Blemish Base or Blemish Balm. It was originally formulated in the 1960s in Germany (Not Asia!) by dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek to protect her patients' skin after facial peels and surgery. BBcreams have so many amazing properties and after knowing the origin of this cream you can now understand why. The coverage is often mineral-based, and is intended to both cover and treat blemishes such as acne, sun spots and age spots. It also has anti-wrinkle, anti-inflammatory and soothing effects. Awesome, right?

BB Creams are promoted as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock. Which is an amazing thing when you take into consideration all the steps Americans, or any non-Asian countries, have to take for a flawless skin. Which leads me to get deeper into topic: Americans have different makeup tendencies versus Asians, if you want to learn more about the subtle differences feel free to YouTube all the endless list of informative videos comparing them both! Foundation tends to be a bit too heavy for Asians so BB Creams are their go-to product for their flawless skin. They prefer younger softer looks. Americans don't really care, They apply their primer, concealer, foundation and powder, along with that blush and bronzer, etc! Creating that bold, daring look. There are obvious exceptions to this rules! As with everything but this is a quick generalization.

♡ This is exactly why I was drawn to BBCreams in the first place! I needed a way of skipping all the face-prepping steps, since I don't have much time to get ready, and still look good without looking like I tried too hard in the morning.

There has been a small hype with BB Creams, now Western countries are producing and marketing their own cream. The pros are that these creams are now easy accessible since they can be found at drugstores such as Wallgreens and you no longer  have to resort to eBay for Asian makeup products. My worry? That they wouldn't be as good as Korean BB Creams for example, since American tend to monetize on false advertisement and hypes.

(Sorry for the messy tests, my cats decided I'd be a nice Idea to play with oil sheets last night!)

I tend to always determine which cream or foundation I like best, or I'll use the most, by first doing a Oil Test. My face is naturally oily, If your skin is normal to dry these might not be your top 3. I just really hate extra oily products that claim to be for oily skin but end up making my face look worse.
I left these to sit for around 10 hours.

★ In third place: Maybelline - Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector SPF 30
So what are the 8 in 1 properties this BB Cream claims to have?

1. Creates a natural glow.
2. Compliments skin-tone.
3. SPF 30 UV protection.
4. Hydrates all day.
5. Blurs imperfections.
6. Oil free, non-greasy.
7. Looks visibly smooth.
8. Feels fresh.

I don't agree with this claim. I'd say this is more of an 4 in 1 cream. Why? Because it is obviously oily and we can see this thanks to the oil test results. Most creams that claim to hydrate do retain skins' moisture, etc. I don't mind it because it's not overly oily but I was honestly expecting less that what it showed. This product does not contain parabens but this product contains a high amount of glycerin (third ingredient) and also propylene glycol, which both can act as humectants. Which is not bad but it's a bit conflicting when it comes to coverage since the skin will want to suck in the product. Gosh this sounds so weird!  I do like it because it has a decent amount of coverage. It's so quick and easy to apply in the mornings but after a while this product just leaves my face looking so greasy if I don't use the oil sheets to clean my face! That's why it is my last on my top 3 list.

In Second PlaceL'Oreal Paris - Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream
Even though this one had the least oils, you'd figure this would be my top 1 but no. It doesn't have Sunscreen. Completely defeating the purpose of it being called a BBCream! False advertisement much? I still like it regardless & do wear it when it's really hot and humid outside so I don't look like I'm melting. I do think this one blends better with my skin color. Also, the product is very deceiving! You think it's going to be a very oily product since it's so watery but in fact it's the most oil control out of the other two.

Pros: Luminescent finish provides lit-from-within glow. Fragrance-free formula and it blends easily.

In First Place: Rimmel London - BB Cream 9-in-1 Matte (Medium)
This one is my top 1, go to BB Cream. I do wear it almost everyday. What are the 9 claims?

1. Minimise pores.
2. Even skin tone.
3. Mattifies.
4. Shine control.
5. Smooth.
6. Soothe.
7. Conceal dark circles.
8. Prevent blemishes.
9. All-day coverage.

Maybe it's the fact that it doesn't leave my skin looking shiny or that this one has the most coverage out of the other two; This is definitely my go-to BB Cream. I'm not too sure about the minimizing pore property and It's not that lasting but I never expect BB Creams to last longer than 8 hours. People who expect BB Creams to be as good as high end foundations are aiming a bit too high. I do recommend this one for the most part. It's affordable and it blends really easily, even with my hands!

✿ ✿ ✿

In conclusion, these are my top 3 Western BBCreams! Which are your favorites?  Which one would you recommend the most? I'm still a bit more fond of Korean Brands but to each it's own!  Love you all ~ RariMoon.

    1. I think it's because Rimmel is the closest thing to a foundation? Really! I doesn't feel like a BB cream on my face. Obviously it's not as lasting but still ~ You welcome! ♡

    1. Thank you sweetheart! If you have Dry / Sensitive Skin you could try the Mabelline one. They also has the Pure version that's specifically for Oily skin, meaning that this one isn't meant to have too much oil control, no wonder, right? Haha ~ ♡

  9. What a brilliant review, thank you so much for sharing! :) <3 My skin is very oily, and I always used to use the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream - it gives great coverage and is really mattyfing. I don't use BB creams anymore, as I have way too much redness/blemishes, so I need serious foundation coverage every day, lol. x I've never tried the Rimmel one, but I have a friend who swears by it! If I ever go back to BB creams, I'll deffo try that one. :) <3

    1. Ah, Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream !? I've heard about on on a couple of reviews! Should I try it, or stick with the Rimmel one?
To be honest I use the Kat Von D Lock it foundation when I'm going to "formally" go out and it's amazing! I think you would honestly love it. Because it gives amazing coverage and she has ones for oily skin. I really use BBCreams for Everyday/college.
      Have a great day!

  10. This is perfect; I've been looking for BB creams that are good and affordable! Like you, I also prefer more Asian (particularly Korean) brands, but the ones I find have a steeper price that is out of my range. I had actually only seen the Maybelline one before, but just wasn't sure about buying it. I have combo/dry skin, so I'm not sure how these BB creams would work with me, but I'd like to try out the Rimmel one! Great review :) xx
